Therapeutic Gardens

At Manor Grange Care Home, our gardens and outdoor areas provide a peaceful and engaging setting for residents to enjoy at their own pace. Whether walking among the flower beds, sitting comfortably in the shade, or spending time with family outdoors, residents have access to a space that supports well-being and connection. The doors to the garden are always open, and with regular rest areas positioned throughout, everyone can enjoy the fresh air safely and comfortably. Some ground-floor rooms even open directly onto the garden, while the first-floor balcony provides another inviting space to take in the views.

In the warmer months, the gardens are a central part of daily life, with all activities moved outside whenever possible. From gentle exercise sessions to entertainment and afternoon tea, the outdoor areas are well used and greatly valued. Garden use and events are shared through activity planners displayed around the home, so residents always know what’s happening.

Our Therapeutic Gardens & Outdoor Facilities

Manor Grange is surrounded by beautifully maintained grounds that feel both homely and full of life. Accessibility is key, so our residents can explore the gardens all year round and be supported by shaded areas and plenty of seating. Our garden also includes a putting green for those who enjoy a little friendly competition, while fruit trees and strawberry plants offer the chance to pick home-grown produce. Apples and herbs gathered from the garden regularly make their way into the kitchen to further add a personal touch to mealtimes.

Raised planters have been thoughtfully installed both in the main garden and on the first-floor balcony, allowing residents at all mobility levels to take part in planting. We have a full-time gardener who ensures the outdoor space remains vibrant throughout the seasons, growing residents’ favourite flowers from seed and incorporating occasional plant donations that add character and variety. There is even a dedicated herb garden, particularly enjoyed by residents living with dementia, who can benefit from its calming scents and tactile plants.

Feedback from residents plays a vital role in how the garden evolves. Regular forums held every quarter give residents the opportunity to share suggestions and ideas, helping us keep the gardens aligned with the things that bring them joy.

Sit Back & Relax

Our gardens hum with life, offering everything from birds and butterflies to a colourful bug hotel decorated with painted golf balls. Many residents simply enjoy sitting quietly, watching the wildlife and taking in the greenery that surrounds them, while others enjoy a stroll or some outdoor activities. The enclosed rear garden opens onto scenic views across Carrick Knowe Golf Course, creating a peaceful backdrop for both activity and rest.

Whether residents choose to read in the shade, enjoy a meal on the patio, or sit on the balcony with a friend, there is always a spot that feels just right. Through every season, our outdoor spaces remain an important part of daily life at Manor Grange and are a place where residents can stay active and in touch with nature.

Therapeutic Gardens FAQs

We are firm believers in offering our residents regular opportunities to step outside, breathe in fresh air, participate in outdoor activities, and relish the beauty of nature. Embracing the outdoors brings numerous mental and physical advantages, including stress and anxiety reduction, enhanced mood, improved cardiovascular health, balance and muscle strength.

We organise various outdoor activities, including walks, gardening, lawn games, and events. When the weather is warm, residents also have the opportunity to dine outside and enjoy live entertainment.

To ensure that our gardens are accessible to all, we have incorporated wheelchair-accessible paths and provided comfortable seating for residents. The private garden is designed with safety in mind, featuring secure fencing and gates to prevent residents from wandering beyond the garden perimeters.
