Girl Guides Enjoy a Practice Camp Out at Manor Grange Care Home
Manor Grange Care Home is supported by the Edinburgh County Girl Guides, for a Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award, candidates had a dress rehearsal of pitching their tents and cooking lunch as they prepare for their Adventurous Journey element of their award.
Our spacious and enclosed garden was turned into a camping area for tents when the girl guides arrived following a strenuous hike through West Edinburgh.
Residents enjoyed watching events unfold when the tents were being erected and the guides began to prepare lunch on camping stoves. They were absolutely fascinated and there was much conversation about how proficient the guides were at erecting the tents.
This activity was ideal for our residents, especially those who have dementia, it brought back their own memories of their youth spent in girl guide associations such as the Brownies, reminiscing about uniforms and how they have changed through the years.
This activity has also given us a notion for having our own tent erecting challenge in the summer!
We're excited to offer our facilities for the benefit of our local community groups and we are always keen to hear of suggestions for this. We currently support a number of Duke of Edinburgh/Bronze Award Candidates through volunteering opportunities and residents really enjoy chatting to and spending quality time with the youths doing various craft projects.
