Four-Legged Friends Brighten Days at Manor Grange Care Home
At Manor Grange Care Home, we’ve welcomed a few new furry friends to our growing family of pet therapy companions. Toulouse, who has been a regular visitor since the home first opened, now has some wonderful new helpers—Flossie, Milo, and Cora. Together, this delightful team of wagging tails and friendly faces brings comfort, joy, and connection to residents and staff alike.
Pet therapy has long been recognised in the UK as a valuable way to enhance mental and emotional well-being, particularly for those living in care settings. Animals provide unconditional affection, helping to reduce feelings of loneliness and anxiety. For residents at Manor Grange, their visits spark happiness and often stir fond memories of beloved pets from years gone by.
Our four-legged friends are always ready to make their rounds, visiting residents in their rooms and spending time in communal areas. For those who want more interaction, there’s even the chance to walk the dogs around our extensive gardens or simply enjoy some one-on-one companionship. Flossie, Milo, Cora, and Toulouse are always delighted to be the recipients of warm cuddles—and occasionally a little treat, much to the delight of everyone!
These therapy visits do more than just put a smile on faces. According to research, interacting with pets can help to lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and encourage physical activity. In addition, the presence of animals often prompts conversations, with residents reminiscing about the special pets they had in years past. For some, the simple act of stroking a dog’s soft fur can be soothing and grounding.
It’s not just the residents who benefit—our staff also appreciate the calming effect of these visits. The dogs have a wonderful ability to ease tensions during challenging moments, bringing a sense of lightness and joy into the care home environment.
At Manor Grange, we've created a warm, homely atmosphere where every resident feels cared for and supported. Adding this lovable pack of canine companions to our regular schedule is just one of the ways we foster a sense of belonging and connection.
